Do you want to know how to create a “burn out proof” practice? This is something many practitioners tell me they’re afraid of… burn out… and believe me, from someone who’s been there, it’s not something I’d ever want you to experience!
There are ways to ensure we don’t burn ourselves out as practitioners, and in today’s blog I’m sharing those with you.
You see, my practice started from nothing, as a solo parent, and quickly built to a thriving business – which was great! The thing was, coming from financial scarcity I was worried about making sure I didn’t end up back on struggle street. This meant that I filled every available day, first 3 days, then 5 days, then 6. It was great, seeing 30 to 40 clients in a week, enjoying consistent revenue and clients. Plus they were all my “right fit clients” – win! But there’s only so long you can burn the candle at both ends my friend, and I learned that the hard way.
So take it from me, put practices, processes and boundaries in place NOW, so you don’t have to fight back from where I was.
You actually can design a practice that not only thrives but also shields you from burnout. In this post, I’ll be sharing my experiences and actionable strategies you can use, to create a burnout-proof practice, that allows you to live your passion and grow your practice!
Understanding Burnout
Burnout is more than just feeling tired; it’s a state of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion caused by prolonged stress. For natural health practitioners, burnout can stem from overworking, emotional fatigue from client interactions, and lack of boundaries. Recognizing these symptoms early is crucial to addressing them effectively.
For me, it started to present as an uneasy feeling of being off-balance and a little dizzy. I’d wake up feeling like that, struggle to get out of bed and walk down the hallway. But within an hour or so that feeling had passed and I felt fine again. So I went about my day and most importantly…. I didn’t change my ways!
Over the course of the next three months, the dizzy “off balance” feeling stayed longer, then lasted all day, then I woke with an episode of vertigo that lasted for a week. That was scary! This was September, and I still didn’t take the heed to change my ways. After a week off the vertigo seemed to be gone, and although still a bit dizzy, I went back to clients. Unfortunately the issue continued until December, getting worse by the day. When I closed the door and locked up for Christmas I literally fell on the floor, unable to get up, and had vertigo that wouldn’t leave for the next 7 weeks.
It took two years for my nervous system to return to normal, with a lot of work. During that time I added packages and programs to my clinic to take the pressure off. I offered a high end VIP option of working with me, that meant I could see less clients without lessening my earnings. Creating a burn out proof practice happened for me because I needed it. But what I want for you, is to create a burn out proof practice NOW, so you never have to get there.
Here’s my learnings, I hope they help you too

Strategies for a Burnout-Proof Practice
Set Clear Boundaries
Establishing work-life boundaries is essential. Learn to say no to tasks that overextend you and prioritize what truly matters. By managing your schedule effectively, you can maintain a healthy balance and protect your energy.
Create a Sustainable Business Model
Your business model should reflect your values and energy levels. Consider incorporating diversified revenue streams such as Packages & Programs or Automated Solutions. This not only supports financial stability but also allows for flexibility in your practice.
Prioritize Self-Care
Self-care is not a luxury; it’s a necessity. Integrate daily self-care routines, whether it’s through regular breaks, mindfulness practices, or engaging in hobbies. Remember, taking care of yourself enables you to care for others better.
Develop a Support System
Surround yourself with a supportive network of peers, mentors, or professional groups. Sharing experiences and seeking guidance can provide new perspectives and emotional support, which are invaluable in preventing burnout.
Mindset and Personal Development
Cultivate a CEO mindset by focusing on personal growth and addressing any “healer wounds” that may hold you back. Embrace the journey of self-improvement, which is integral to sustaining a fulfilling practice.
